Endlessly customisable
It rained today. So much rain. I think we will come through this summer with mere glimpses of memories of sunshine. I made a dinner of mostly garden-foraged things (zucchini & basil asalad, zucchini blossom and thyme pasta) and felt like I was eating entirely the wrong season for the cold pounding rain outside.
I've been trying to get some stuff made up before I pack away my leather & rubberwork kit for the move- I made this cuff & collar set this evening (there are two cuffs but one is on the wrist of the hand taking the photo). I'm not entirely thrilled with them but it occured to me that given how extensively I document my garden, I should probably at least attempt to document my other projects as well. It's hard to keep track of but worth stopping to take stock, I think. Making things is fun, wielding a hammer is great therapy, and it's nice to have an endlessly customisable accessory collection on hand. I need to start researching other colours & textures of leather and rubber than black with occasional red highlights. I have a pile of red & black made-by-me accessories on my desk (this red, black and silver set, plus a red zipper cuff, a black rubber with steel ring cuff, and a black snake on a red strip of leather) and it occurs to me that my colour spectrum is just a teensy little bit predictable.
I find I'm leaning away from rubber a lil bit these days- I had an allergic reaction to an armband I made and in the end it's just not as durable as leather. Rubber will pull away from riveting points with any tension at all, or split fast along holes. It's cheaper, though, and it involves less cruelty, and most of what I use is recycled (free from the bike shop up the road), so there is all that to take into account.
I went to yoga today. That makes three new structured activities in the past three weeks, all of which I intend to continue with. When I think about it like that it feels daunting, but in reality it all flows without too much stress at all (yet).
